Seychelles
Seychelles is a cluster of 115 charming islands rising from the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, 1,600 km (994 miles) off the eastern coast of Africa. A pristine hideaway of white-sand beaches, secluded coves, lush palm-fringed jungles, sea-sculptured granite boulders, and azure waters teeming with vibrant coral reefs, its little wonder why the Seychelles is a favorite getaway of the rich and famous. Trading in exclusivity, luxury, and undeveloped natural environments, the Seychelles is an ideal beach escape for those who can afford all that gorgeous privacy.
Scattered just below the equator, the islands of the Seychelles generally have warm, perfect beach weather all year round. That said, the ideal times to visit the Seychelles are from April to May and from October to November. These two periods of the year fall between the two trade winds which hit the island annually, and thus represent the least windy months of the year. A visit during these shoulder months offers more mild conditions ideal for sunbathing, water sports, and wildlife watching. Plus, by frequenting the islands in the spring and fall, you’ll also avoid the heavy tourist crowds that descend on the islands in December, January, July and August.
The only international gateway to the island archipelago is the Seychelles International Airport (SEZ). Situated 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) south of the nation’s capital Victoria (on Mahé Island), all international flights land here, with regular scheduled flights arriving from Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. If you are traveling to another island by plane, you will be assisted to the domestic terminal. If you are traveling to another island by ferry, you will be driven to the Inter-Island Jetty. For those remaining on Mahé Island, you will be driven to your chosen accommodation. No visa is necessary upon arrival, but you are required to complete an immigration card.
