Montenegro
Situated in Southeast Europe on the Adriatic Sea, Montenegro is the pearl of European tourism. The small Balkan nation boasts idyllic coastal resorts surrounded by majestic mountains that spawn picturesque rivers and waterfalls. Beachgoers will enjoy the warm waters of the Adriatic, while history fans can explore nearby antique Venetian villages and UNESCO walled cities. Those seeking active leisure will enjoy hiking and rafting in some of the most rugged terrains in Europe, and it would be remiss not to mention the delicious local cuisine, renowned for its variety of fresh, seasonal foods, harvested from mountains to sea.
Although Montenegro has four seasons, its Mediterranean climate allows the country to enjoy favorable temperatures without extreme weather. You’ll generally experience hot summers, ideal springs and autumns, while winters are cool and rainy along the coast. Snow is rare, except in the mountainous regions.
Montenegro has two international airports: Podgorica Airport (TGD) serving the nation’s capital, and Tivat Airport (TIV) that is closer to tourist cities like Tivat, Kotor and Budva. Alternatively, you can also fly into Croatia’s Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) and drive to Montenegro’s coast – the drive is around 70km (43 miles) by car.
